About half the size of a normal sweet potoato (be sure to order enough!) these little "jewels" are sweet, tender and certified organic (grown and processed without the use of artificial ingredients, preservatives or irradiation).

What is the difference between a sweet potato and a yam? Several decades ago, when orange-fleshed sweet potatoes were introduced in the southern U.S., producers and shippers needed a way to distinguish them from the more traditional, white-fleshed, northern sweet potato. They began calling them yams, after the African edible white root, nyami, even though the two plants were not related. In short, yams sold in the U.S. are not yams (nyami) at all, but simply a different type of sweet potato with relatively moist texture and orange flesh. Although the terms are used interchangeably today, the U.S. Department of Agriculture requires that the label "yam" always be accompanied by "sweet potato."
